As the Kolmas linja space is transitioning from the former Temporary space into the cooperatively-rented Kuusi Palaa, there are a few sound and music-related activities that were previously scheduled privately and will take place just before the Kuusi Palaa launch.
While these are not 'official' Kuusi Palaa events using the points system, they are still open to everyone. Both workshops are free to participate in and open to all; please register for the Alan Courtis workshop (see below). If you'd like, you can also get a Kuusi Palaa ID cards at either event (please bring 1€ cash to cover the cost of the card + chip).

Field Recordings workshop by Alan Courtis
Monday 26 Feb 17:00 - 20:00
The same way photography is now part of the daily life of millions around the world, sound recording has been also expanding its role in modern societies. In this context the workshop‘s main aim is to show and discuss Field Recordigs from various perspectives. The topics include: diverse phonographic tendencies, sound possibilities, creative listening and expressive uses of sound recording.
But sessions will also focus on practice: the workshop requires active and constant involvement by participants, whose abilities and interests represent a key target of our attention. For these practical exercises which require active participation, the participants are required to bring at least one recording device of any kind: digital recorder, tablet, computer, mini-disc, cassette, microcassette, DAT, i-phone, etc.
The workshop is open to musicians, no- musicians, artists, profesionals, students and anybody interested.
The specific goals of our work are:
To introduce students to Field Recordings
To improve creative ways of listening
To explore the possibilities of sound recording
To know the main tendencies and composers on this field
To try diverse techniques and excercises
To reflect about the artistic implications of these topics
To encourage the creative process
The workshop will have a duration of 3 hours and will be conducted by Alan Courtis, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. To register for the workshop, send an email to roopealpertti@hotmail.com before it happens.
