Proposal description

Helsinki-based sound art and experimental music association Äänen Lumo will host an open discussion concentrating on some current "institutional" issues of its field(s).

    I'm frustrated at discourse that starts with conceptualizing "experimental music" as its starting point. No matter if "sound art" is added to smoothen the edges. It seems to me that this move is to be avoided, on grounds of: a) concept of "experimental music" does not have any real substance, so in the end any demarcation between what is and what is not "experimental music" is of no importance, and b) this definition still manages to reinforce academic and institutional hierarchies that are counterproductive for knowledge in general.


    Yet the questions set above are not unimportant, especially concerning institutions. So I would like to see this take shape and could contribute to it as well.

    It's a worthwhile subject as well and why not talk about it too. I'm choosing to use this wording because I'm (intellectually) lazy.
