Short description
Monthly screening about the city and urban life
Proposal description

An-ordinary-city is an independent programme, aimed at sharing knowledge and promoting a better awareness about our cities and our urban environment through cultural media and action.

For the Kallio event: https://www.facebook.com/events/2125165371062790/

Movie: Exit from the gift shop

The story of how an eccentric French shop-keeper and amateur film-maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner. The film contains footage of Banksy, Shephard Fairey, Invader and many of the world's most infamous graffiti artists at work.

In English:

Last summer Vaasanpuistikko square was painted together with local people to revitalize the market. Finnish winter has unfortunately left its mark in the piece, so it's time to fix it together.

A painting workshop open to all will be held on Thursday 10 May from 11am to 16pm. In case of a bad weather, the workshop can be transferred to another day. Any changes to the workshop program will be announced on this Facebook event.

At the workshop there will be professional street artists and street art instructors present to guide painters of all ages. Everyone is welcome to join the workshop and no previous experience is required. The tools to be used in painting are paint rollers and brushes. Participants are welcome to join the workshop at any point of the day and paint as long as they want. Children under the age of 8 can take part with a parent.

The workshops are free of charge and we will provide the participants with the paints, brushes and protective gear.

Some ideas for the piece were collected from the citizens throughout the spring, and based on them three artists created drafts for people to vote. The piece by Laura Lehtinen, ‘Party By The Sea’ was chosen as the winner from the three drafts. Read more about the piece: http://www.helsinkiurbanart.com/en/coming-soon-kallio-street-art-square/

Hello, I have three options for the next screening:

    1. Stray dogs - Tsai Ming-liang, 2013 - 135 min
Critics: the film is a bit long and painfully slow with impressive cinematic.
    2. Chungking Express - Wong Kar Wai, 1994 - 102 min
A classical movie by Wong Kar Wai in Hongkong depicts love stories in the city.
    3. Ilo Ilo - Anthony Cheng, 2013 - 109min
A hardworking mother (Yann Yann Yeo) becomes jealous of her rambunctious son's (Koh Jia Ler) close bond with his nanny (Angela Bayani).

Which one do you prefer? Open discussion here.
I am worried about the hardcore of Stray Dogs. It is purely an art-house work.
